Nigerian superstar hitmaker David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, has revealed that he spent almost $2 million (approximately one billion Naira) on his previous studio album, “A Better Time.” The “Over Dem” crooner disclosed this during his media tour for his recently launched album “Timeless” in the U.S
Davido, who made this claim while speaking on the Ebro in the Breakfast Show on Hot 97 FM, New York, clarified that the figure covered features, music videos, and publicities. He also revealed that even though the money spent on the previous album surpasses the one spent on the recent “Timeless” album, the latter has yielded more income.
He said, “I will be sincere with you; in my last album, I spent nearly $2 million, For everything. You know what I mean.
“On this new one (Timeless), I haven’t even spent up to $300k, and I have made more than that already in just three days”. It just shows me the path African music is going”.
The artist’s third studio album, “A Better Time,” released in 2020, housed guest features from American heavyweights like Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Young Thug, Lil Baby, and Summer Walker. The singer, who went on a brief break from the music scene and social media space, following the death of his only son, Ifeanyi, on October 31st, 2022, resurfaced with a new album titled “Timeless,” which has enjoyed immense success so far.
Davido’s Timeless Amasses Massive Success In a Few Days Of Release
Speaking of success, the new album, which was released on 31st March 2023, is already making waves, amassing massive wins, and has multiple records to its name.
As revealed by Apple Music, a popular music streaming platform, Davido’s recent project broke about four records within 24 hours of release. The records are as follows:-
- Record for Africa’s biggest album on Apple Music history by streams garnered in 24 hours globally.
- Record for Africa’s most simultaneous songs on Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100(Nine concurrent songs).
- Number Two on the Apple Music chart for US Album, the highest peak any African album has ever attained.
- Record for the African album with the most concurrent “Number One” entries.
- The album also became the first African album to attain number one place on the US iTunes.
While reacting to his album’s enormous success, Davido retweeted a post by Chart Data, a news outlet that shared one of the album’s feat, with the caption, “We believe in God.”
Going forward, the artiste also initiated a challenge for one of the album’s hit songs, ‘Unavailable,’ a challenge which many music lovers have since hopped on.
Fans of the artiste believe that the new Davido’s Timeless album would bag more feats, earn a Grammy nomination and possibly bring the world’s most-coveted award home. At the same time, other music critics argue that the project’s longevity would be short and might wash away in a few months, just like the last.
